Coronavirus Updates

Cockatours: Coronavirus & Tours Update

Edited: 24th March, 2020

At Cockatours we have been doing our best to keep up to date with the Coronavirus situation.  We have been getting our information daily from reputable sources including the World Health Organisation and local, state and federal governments.

As of 1200h, 29th May, 2020:

Kimberley: Postponed until 2021

Gulf Savannah: Postponed until 2021

  • It is with a heavy heart and deep regret we have been forced to postpone 2020 Kimberley and Gulf Savannah Tours until 2021.  This has not been an easy decision and we have done our best to ensure it is the right decision to make.  We will endeavour to contact everyone by phone in order of departure date and will do our best to treat all our clients fairly.  We only ask that in return you treat us fairly and communicate kindly.  Due to the closing of State borders by the government and restriction of access to communities we are unable to travel.  We also wish to do our part in preventing the spread of this virus and respect the wishes of those in areas we may visit.  Details below.

Cape York:

July Tours: Postponed until 2021

August & September Tours: Going ahead as planned

  • Due to state borders potentially opening too late for clients to travel, as well as biosecurity restrictions in Cape York we are postponing July tours.
  • I am hopeful that things may have changed in time for August and September tours but will update clients as I have information myself.

Stay Healthy & Informed

In the meantime, to stay healthy in general, we suggest:

  • Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, continue to exercise, keep up vitamin intake
  • Practice exceptional hygiene.  Try not to touch your face with your hands, wash your hands regularly, cough into your elbow (a strange one but backed by medical professionals)
  • Listen to the live videos & press releases from our government officials and health reps, rather than the news.  They can be found on the 9 News website here or by downloading the 9 News app here (allow notifications and you will get notice 5 mins before a live feed)
  • Follow government advice, practice social distancing and minimise trips into public places
  • This video from Jacinta Ardern (NZ PM) is also a great watch to help understand things (the video should load at the top of the page)

The best sources for information are:

Tour Postponement & Travel Disruption

In the case of tours being postponed:

  • Keeping in line with the industry standard during this emergency, you will be provided with a future travel credit valued at 110% of any payments made for your tour to date
  • This value can be used for the tour you had selected in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, and any merchandise or add-ons we offer in-house
  • Please contact (via email) any travel and accommodation you may have booked and ask them directly what the process may be.  Unfortunately we are limited in our capacity to help here.  For those that have travel insurance, contact your insurance provider – this may help with any money lost to travel/accomm bookings.
  • Please review the ACCC information for consumers on the Coronavirus here

If your travel plans are disrupted:

  • If your travel plans are disrupted and you are forced to withdraw from your trip of a lifetime, we are permitting travel tour date changes without penalty
  • Keeping in line with the industry standard during this emergency, you will be provided with a future travel credit valued at 110% of any payments made for your tour to date
  • This value can be used for the tour you had selected in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, and any merchandise or add-ons we offer in-house.

Please be assured, we will keep you updated, and in the case we need to postpone a tour, we will give you fair notice.  No one will lose any money with us.  I understand most of our clients are either retired or looking at it and your hard-earned money is of high value to you.  I place a lot of value on this too and in the worst case scenario, we will take care of you to the best of our ability.  That’s what Cockatours is all about 😊  We also hope that you’ll take care of us and if we do have to postpone a tour, accept our offer for a credit for the future 2 years.

We really do appreciate your support and encourage everyone to stay positive and be kind to one another while we navigate these tricky times.

Hang in there folks, strange times indeed, but keep sharing the love!

Kind regards and lots of love, Rossy from Cockatours.

Please, if you have any enquiries, shoot them through via email rather than by phone.  We are doing our best to work through this in a timely and fair manner and are updating you AS SOON as we have the information.  If you contact us before we contact you, there won’t be any new information as we are informing you as soon as we have the information. 🙂
