Private Cape York Tours

Experience Cape York with the most experienced Cape York guide, a local with an ecology background.

Immersive & Authentic

Want to see Cape York, but with a smaller group and with a little luxury?
Join Rossy and travel in style in a brand new Isuzu setup for 4WDing in Cape York’s most remote places.

You will visit places no other tours go and have the benefit of authentic exploration in remote, unvisited communities, only possible with Rossy.  On these tours you will meet Aboriginal Elders (Senior Traditional Owners), see places few Australians have visited and experience the feeling of real exploration, as we try and discover new magic around Cape York.

Rossy is an ecologist and has lived and worked in Cape York.  He is currently writing and researching a book and is travelling throughout remote communities in Cape York, to visit rare places and hear people’s stories and help share them.  He is currently trying to encourage TOs in remote communities to build their tourism offerings.  You will get the benefit of being on tour, but also experiencing meeting some TOs first hand or being taken to special places.

Testimonials

A terrific tour. Rossy is all over the information about a vast array of topics and continually provided detailed accounts of aboriginal culture, explorers, history of each region, animals (especially snakes – he loves snakes) and more.

The talks he had arranged by down-to-earth, hands-on experts were great. We really felt like we were getting the correct information and that there would be very few (if any) other tours providing these talks from some of these people…

…We camped in very private places that it appears only Rossy can access: private and picturesque.

…Overall, it was a great adventure and one worth considering if you would like to have a true Cape experience run by a local who has first hand experience and knowledge (and can cook a bit too).

This trip to Cape York exceeded our expectations! Thank you Cockatours for sharing this wonderful part of Queensland, Australia. Small group tour that takes you off the beaten track to camp in spectacular spots beside bubbling creeks and within National Parks. We saw all of the highlights between Cairns and the Tip, stunning wildlife and sunsets plus more – would not hesitate in recommending this trip to anyone that loves getting close to nature. Rossy, the company owner was our driver and guide – if Rossy did not know it, it was not worth knowing! His driving in tight spots and over the corrugations was exceptional and the food fabulous from breakfast to dinner! I could go on and on but in a nutshell – fabulous!!

Loved this tour. A mix of camping and glamping. Rossy led the tour, educated us, and drove expertly (on terrible roads and tracks), what an amazing man he is…We went to places you’d never know about unless you were as experienced as Rossy. Rivers, waterfalls, birdwatching, caught yabbies, crocodiles, and not to mention getting to The Tip and driving The Bloomfield Track. We even had a genuine Welcome to Country, from a local indigenous family. So special and humbling. Plus, a helicopter ride over Thursday Island, The Tip, and landing on a beach. And not to mention visiting towns we’d only heard about – now we know them! Rossy is knowledgeable and can answer almost all your questions about this part of Australia. We would highly recommend this tour, whatever age you are. Just as long as you’re healthy and fit, so you can see, experience and join in the fun!
